ILM Level 5 Award

The trainees on the Bangor programme have the option of completing an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management.   This is an optional extension of the leadership training that takes place throughout the three years of your registration as a DClinPsy student and can be completed during your DClinPsy training.    The teaching components for the Award are already included in your academic timetable.   This means that all trainees, whether they opt to complete assignments or not, will receive the necessary teaching for the Award as part of the overall Leadership curriculum.

The Award requires the successful completion of two ILM assignments and there are three options to choose from:  The first assignment - Making Professional Presentations has 9 guided learning hours (these are recommended learning hours needed to complete the assignment).  The second assignment - Understanding the Organisational Environment - assumes 24 guided learning hours, and the third option - Understanding the Skills, Principles and Practice of Effective Management Coaching and Mentoring - assumes 18 guided learning hours.   Trainees typically choose assignments 1 and 2 to complete the Award, but assignment 3 is available to trainees who do not wish to complete a presentation assignment.

Opting to complete the two assignments is not a trivial undertaking and will involve you in many hours of study in your own time in addition to your work for the DClinPsy qualification.   For this reason, some, but not all, trainees on the programme opt to complete this additional qualification.
